Turkey Tom Teaches Kids to Give Back

2018-12-10T15:50:31-06:00

Our annual "Tom the Turkey" food drive was a great success! This fun activity teaches our EmBe kids about giving back at an early age while raising important donations for Feeding South Dakota. This year, we raised 419 pounds of food! For every item of food the child donated, they got to color a feather to add to our turkey! As you can see, we had two very colorful birds when we finished! Children at both of our Sioux Falls locations participated. We are incredibly lucky to have EmBe families who understand the importance of giving to those who are [...]

EmBe employee uses CPR to save a life

2018-10-02T14:47:17-05:00

When Brittany Lee went to Wal-Mart to pick up formula this summer – a fairly routine errand, little did she know that she would leave Wal-Mart with formula and a story of the time she saved a life. As Brittany headed into Wal-Mart that day, she noticed a group of people standing around a man in the parking lot. As she approached, she heard the people gathered asking each other if they knew CPR. No one did and they couldn’t find the man’s pulse. That’s when Brittany, Lead Teacher in Transition Room at our Downtown childcare center, stepped into action using training [...]

Five Great Reasons to Coach Kids!

2019-02-18T17:00:07-06:00

Three of EmBe’s signature after-school programs will begin in March, and they are in need of volunteers like you! Girls on the Run is an activity-based, positive youth development program for grades 3 through 5, and over 1,500 girls participate in Sioux Falls each year. This bi-annual program teaches life skills, inspires confidence and promotes positive health while preparing the girls to run in a celebratory 5K at the end of the season. Just like Girls on the Run, Heart & Sole also teaches positive health, self-confidence and important life skills, but this is a middle school program for grades 6 through [...]

2019-04-24T09:11:08-05:00

Sarah Rhea Werner left her full-time day job a little over a year ago to start her own business. She’s a writer. She runs two successful podcasts. She writes a column about podcasting for Forbes magazine. She does public speaking and workshops. She consults on marketing and branding. She supports herself doing things that she loves. You Empowered Jackie

2019-01-15T13:37:06-06:00

Jackie’s story is an unlikely one. A single mother of two, Jackie found herself out of work. This led to some financial hardship, including an outstanding balance to her daughter’s childcare center - EmBe. One day, feeling frustrated by her search for a new job, Jackie received a phone call from EmBe looking to collect on Jackie’s outstanding childcare balance. While it started out as what might be considered a collections call, it took a completely different turn. “Basically the conversation went from ‘Oh, you have this balance and we need to find a way to take care of it’ [...]

Programs foster donor growth

2019-01-15T13:37:11-06:00

EmBe’s continued growth is rooted in programming. Whether it’s the addition of a new school site for our Girls on the Run program, the addition of our Girls’ Makers Day event to expose more girls to STEAM career fields, or the expansion of our Women’s Leadership Program to Rapid City, our programs and the people that champion them, make our growth possible. As this programming continues to grow, we also must grow our donor base both in new donors and expanded capacity of existing donors. Luckily, our quality programming continues to bring in new donor prospects because of the exceptional [...]
