EmBe Volleyball provides kids an opportunity to learn the skills of the game in a recreational, non-competitive environment.

EmBe is partnering with the University of Sioux Falls to bring youth an excellent volleyball experience! With a shared vision to positively influence the lives of youth through volleyball, area kids will learn from the expertise of the USF athletes to gain new skills and work as a team.

EmBe offers a winter volleyball season that runs from January to March. Each team is built with ten youth and two volunteer coaches each. Teams are divided into two divisions; 3rd-4th grades and 5th-6th grades.

What is New?
We are excited to announce that we are partnering with University of Sioux Falls (USF) volleyball team to lead four volleyball clinics this season. During clinic weeks, players will build on their volleyball skills with tips and tricks from USF’s volleyball experts to help the players become more confident in their skills. Coaches will use what experts have taught the players during their practice weeks. Our goal is that all participants gain new volleyball skills, work as a team and foster a love for the game.

Registration & Team Information:
All skill levels are invited to participate in our recreational league. Our league is made up of two divisions: 3rd – 4th grades and 5th – 6th grades.  Teams will be organized based on grade level and school they attend. EmBe reserves the right to mix players from different schools to form teams. League organizers do their best to accommodate special requests and preferred practice days, but preferred placement is not guaranteed. Each team will be led by two volunteer coaches and meet one day each week for a one hour practice or clinic. Registration has been extended to close on December 20th at 4:00pm.

Practices and Clinics:
Practices will start the week of January 16th. Practices and clinics will take place at EmBe Downtown or EmBe South for one hour between 6:00pm – 8:45pm on Mondays or Thursdays.  The first two weeks of the season are a practice weeks, then we will start rotating clinic and practice week every other week. Clinics are held at the same location, time and day of the week as your team’s practice.  Clinics are lead by USF Volleyball Players. Practices are lead by volunteer coaches.

League Games:
Will be held at the Avera Human Performance Center.  Games will be played on the following dates:

  • Saturday, January 28 – (8:00am – 2:30pm)
  • Saturday, February 11 – (12:30pm – 7:00pm)
  • Saturday, February 25 – (8:00am – 2:30pm) – Tentative Team Picture Day
  • Saturday, March 11 – (12:30pm – 7:00pm) – Team Picture Day
  • Season End Tournament – Saturday, March 25 – (8:00am – 3:00pm)

Each team will play two back to back games per game day. The tournament will be a single elimination. Recreational play is emphasized while regular volleyball rules are followed. All players are required to wear non-marking tennis shoes. Kneepads are encouraged, but not required.

We will not turn anyone away based on inability to pay. Scholarships are available.  If financial assistance is needed, please contact Jasmina Miller at (605) 681-8329 or jnmiller@embe.org before filling out participant’s registration to be granted a scholarship code.

Volunteers make this program successful!

No volleyball experience necessary to coach a team. We just as that volunteers have a passion for mentoring young athletes and helping them be their very best! Two coaches (male or female, 18 years & above) are required for every team, creating flexibility in scheduling! If a team does not have two coaches, they cannot continue with the season.

Volunteer coaches are provided training materials and practice plans for the entire season. At least one coach is required to attend the clinic their team is scheduled for. Coaches will take what the girls have learned at the clinic and use that for their practice the following week.

Coaches give 1 hour of their time each week to their team. We do understand schedule conflicts arise, we ask that all coaches be present at majority of practices and games.

If you are interested in coaching, please complete the volunteer application below. A background check will also be required but will be sent to you once the application is received and your coaching spot is confirmed.
