The CEO Column: August 2021

CEO Kerri Tietgen reflects on how this year has prepared all of us for life’s curveballs and the resiliency of our community.

Have you ever considered the illustrious ‘the perfect plan?’

What plans did you have for this summer? What plans do you have for the rest of the year?

As we close our summer and transition into fall schedules, back to school activities and a new season, I’m reflecting on our ‘perfect plans’ and the many lessons learned over the last couple of years. As the plan for back to school rolls out and the delta variant constantly threatening to make a mockery of our plans, I can’t help celebrate our adaptability. We have a new comfort in seamlessly moving in between plans A, B, C and Z.

While life continually throws us curveballs, I am amazed and honored by our EmBe’s team has stood up to the challenge – consistently, undauntingly and with the ever-present smile. Specifically, our commitment as we march forward. I am so proud of all that EmBe’s team does to deliver on our promise to serve this community by empowering women and families. Our commitment can be seen as we adapt through the downtown renovation, continue to impact youth, ramp up for our fall Girls on the Run season and FIRST LEGO League, meet and exceed programming goals in aquatics and women’s programs and prepare for the school year and even more service to the community.

With the uncertainty of what may come and the lessons learned, I can guarantee this: the best-laid plan will likely have its bumps and changes in direction. Still I will always put my faith in our community who is committed to delivering and adapting, with an unrelenting commitment to serve one another.
