Welcome EmBe’s 2025 Summer Interns

Every year, EmBe welcomes summer interns and enjoys getting to know them and having them as an extension of the team. Get to know our two new interns and read about their fun stories and diverse experiences.

While we already know how EmBe can produce rich experiences in their lives, we wanted to delve into how they discovered our organization and what they hope to achieve during their time here.

Meet EmBe’s 2025 Summer Interns, Jana and Isaac!

Tell us a bit about yourself!

Isaac: My name is Isaac Mazariegos, and I was born and raised here in Sioux Falls, SD! I now attend Georgetown University, and I just completed my freshman year.

Jana: My name is Jana TerWee, and I was born in Larchwood, IA, but spend a lot of time in Sioux Falls! I am a rising sophomore at Princeton University. I am also a thrower on the Women’s Varsity Track and Field team; I throw discus, shot put, and hammer.

What are you going to school for and what interests you in that field?

Isaac: My major is International Economics and the reason I was so drawn to my major was because of the various paths it can take me towards, whether that is consulting, business, research in developing countries, etc.

Jana: I am currently deciding between psychology and sociology for my major because I love the versatility that both majors offer. I am also pursuing a minor in entrepreneurship to expand my creative skills and knowledge of business.

What brought you to EmBe?

Isaac: EmBe was my first employer in high school, where I worked as an Assistant Teacher for School Age Care at Discovery Elementary. I’ve worked at Discovery when I am on school break and am returning this summer to EmBe as an HR and Finance Intern. The strong work culture and positive impact EmBe has on our community are what drive me to continue to work here.

Jana: I had known of EmBe because of Girls on the Run but didn’t know what all EmBe does outside of youth programming. After lots of research and questions, I fell in love with EmBe’s mission and saw that they had the perfect internship opportunity for me.

What are your career goals or future aspirations after college?

Isaac: My future aspiration after college is to find a job that I am truly passionate about and care for. Currently, my major provides me with the flexibility to pursue various career paths. Although I’m not yet certain of the exact path, I know that opportunities like this internship with EmBe will help prepare me for it.

Jana: For right now, I hope to pursue a career within the business sector of the workforce and/or work for a nonprofit. I am not sure what position I hope to hold within such organizations since I love a little bit of everything, but that is why I am excited to explore development and marketing through this internship!

What is your favorite thing to do during the summer?

Isaac: My favorite thing to do in the summer is to spend time with friends and family, especially now with me being so far away from them during the school year. I also enjoy traveling and trying new foods!

Jana: During the summer I love to go camping with family, spend time on my farm with my animals, and go to concerts. This summer, I am excited to take advantage of having my car again by enjoying many car jam sessions with friends and going to bonfires.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Isaac: If I could have any superpower, it would 100% be the ability to be invisible. Honestly, because I’m slightly nosy.

Jana: If I could have any superpower, I would choose to have speed like the Flash. As a thrower, I don’t run much and that is how I like it. However, super speed would make my sprint workouts a lot easier, and I could get everything done faster.

What is a skill you would like to learn?

Isaac: I’m currently watching Scandal, so I’d definitely say the skill to hack into literally anything. I want to know what everyone is doing and see if any popular or personal conspiracies are actually true or not.

Jana: I want to learn how to whistle through/with my teeth. My mom can do it, but I have never been able to figure it out, and it drives me crazy. I also want to learn how to do glass blowing because I was obsessed with the show Blown Away a couple of years ago.

What do you think is your strongest skill that helps you the most within the workplace or sets you apart, and why?

Isaac: I think my strongest skill that has helped me stand out would be my drive to immerse myself in various environments/settings. I went from working in School Age Care here at EmBe to working in the HR and Finance Department, two completely different areas of the organization. I believe that my curiosity has become a valuable asset in my career, as it has made me a versatile person willing to learn and adapt to various things.

Jana: I believe that my communication skills and diverse knowledge are my strongest skills within the workplace. I have never been one to shy away from conversation, which has led me to become a confident speaker and excel at maintaining clear communication within the workplace. Additionally, I have a very diverse background of experience that adds to all the work I do, but also keeps me curious to take any challenge that comes my way.
