“I hate myself.” Cassidy Wassenaar, a Girls on the Run coach, found this message on one girl’s lap goal card after a long practice.  Concerned, Wassenaar asked her about the message. The little girl explained that it had been a rough day — it was her first time in timeout since kindergarten. Brookings Cross Country Runner Awards EmBe Grant through Gatorade

Ellie Abraham received her award and presented her gift to EmBe's Executive Director for Youth Programs, Stacy Stahl at Brookings High School's Athletic Awards.   South Dakota State Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year, Ellie Abraham, awarded EmBe with a $1000 grant to help accomplish our mission to empower women and families to enrich lives. Abraham is a junior at Brookings High School. It's her second time being named Gatorade’s South Dakota Cross Country Runner of the Year. Like good South Dakotans, we have been leaning into the wind, continuing our work and play through the drifts and flows of our snowy landscape. Although I enjoy the winter’s beauty, I also noticed some signs of spring in the activities of our staff and our wonderful volunteers. One of the best signs of spring? We’ve opened registration for our summer camp programs, most with multiple sessions. Grant Benefits EmBe Youth Programs

EmBe received a grant from the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation's Youth Advisory Council of $3,600 to support scholarships for girls to participate in Girls on the Run at Hayward and Lowell Elementaries in our spring 2018 season and Terry Redlin Elementary in our fall 2018 season. The Council's Initiative is to promote philanthropy "for youth - by youth" and their purpose is to enable their students to make a difference in the lives of young people in the Sioux Falls area.
