About Sara
Sara was born and raised as an Awesome Blossom – Blooming Prairie, MN. Living in a small town on a form helped her cherish family and friends. Sara moved to Sioux Falls about six and a half years ago and never looked back. Sioux Falls is a wonderful city and has so much to offer and still has so much potential. She started working at Avera McKennan as an RN on the Cardiac Pulmonary unit and currently still working there today. Avera has provided Sara with many opportunities to become involved and continue her desire to give back to the community. She is Nurse Governance Chair and yearly compiles a calendar of monthly “give back” events. Sara began working at Falls Community Health part time in 2016, as Colorectal Cancer Navigator. Her goal is to provide support and encourage screening so the lives of our patients can be healthier. Sara was innovative and started “The Blue Move” to help with funding for their patients.
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership to means making the first steps, the hard steps and the right steps. Being a leader means you don’t hesitate to stand up for what is right. To me a leader though is not only about making decisions, but also making everyone around you feel like they are important and finding that one reason why they are standing here today. Everyone has worth and digging deep and finding the “why” is important to me. I am always asking people many questions, because it is important for me to get to know them- know their struggles, their strengths and most importantly their passions. As a leader, character, teamwork and respect are 3 necessary attributes. We are only as strong as our weakest, I want everyone to succeed and be the best that they can be. Being non-judgmental, having an open door and heart are so important. I also feel like a leader is always “raising their hand” looking for new opportunities of growth.
