As the longest-standing award ceremony honoring women in our region, Tribute to Women has shined a light on those doing right by EmBe’s mission since 1974. We’re celebrating 51 years with a fresh new name and look, but it’s still the incredible event you know and love.
Angela Beilke, First PREMIER Bank
Angela Beilke is the Vice President and Mortgage Banking Manager at First PREMIER Bank, bringing over 20 years of expertise to her role. Mrs. Beilke is highly skilled in various areas of mortgage banking, including mortgage servicing law, mortgage accounting, supervisory management, and Federal regulatory compliance. Her extensive experience allows her to adeptly navigate the ever-evolving business landscape while maintaining a strong commitment to customer service and adhering to sound practices, policies, and procedures.
Angela has actively participated on numerous boards and committees at both national and local levels. She Chaired the Community Bank Advisory Council and Chaired the Community Bank Mortgage Committee. Her passion for community service is evident through her involvement with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, multiple Realtor Associations, Kilts for Kids, and the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. She has also served as a high school activities parent representative and led fundraising efforts for rural community projects and United Way. Angela is an alumnus of Leadership South Dakota.
Recently, Angela spearheaded an initiative with the South Dakota Banking Association (SDBA) to establish a mortgage peer group and is also advising a technology company on the development of a new mortgage software application.
Above all, Angela empowers her women-led mortgage team to dream big and excel in the competitive landscape, fostering an environment of growth and excellence.
Melissa Fossell, American Bank and Trust
Melissa Fossell has nearly 15 years of experience in business banking in Sioux Falls, where she excels in meeting a diverse range of customer needs – from managing large construction and real estate loans and operating lines of credit to handling deposit accounts and services of all sizes. Her favorite part of her role is learning about and building relationships with the many unique businesses in the area. Recently, Melissa transitioned into managing and building a team of business bankers, a role she finds rewarding, especially enjoying the mentoring aspect. A fun fact about Melissa is she was inducted into the South Dakota State University Hall of Fame for women’s basketball and played professionally in the Netherlands after an outstanding college career. Outside of work, she volunteers as a board member for the Sioux Falls Zoo & Aquarium and South Dakota Trade, teaches Junior Achievement, and spends most nights and weekends supporting and cheering at her children’s activities. In her spare time, you can find her with her partner Jeremy and their five kids in the bleachers at a Jackrabbit game.
Debby Gruhn, Brady Martz & Associates
Debby Gruhn started her journey in the accounting profession over 20 years ago. At Brady Martz & Associates, she specializes in estate and trust taxation, succession planning and business valuations. Debby takes an outcome-driven approach to helping business owners understand their company value, how it fits with their estate and financial plans, and how to navigate eventual transitions. Listening to client concerns and goals is important to her. Debby especially enjoys helping clients understand their options, so they can choose the right path for their family and their legacy. She is involved in the professional community as a board member of the Sioux Falls Estate Planning Council. Debby earned her law and accounting degrees at the University of South Dakota. She lives in Vermillion with her husband, Kyle, and their three children.
Richelle Hofer, Impact Wealth Management
A 5th Generation South Dakotan, Richelle is a Financial Advisor and Founder of Impact Wealth Management. She has spent almost two decades in the world of finance, creating a truly transparent and emotionally intelligent experience for her clients. Richelle sits with her clients and joins them on their journey into living out an impact through sound financial management. She is dedicated to empowering women in finance and nurturing their money stories. Richelle is a member of the Sioux Falls Estate Planning council and the Sioux Falls Coalition on Aging. She cofounded a non-profit, Grow Garretson, served as a city council member in her hometown of Garretson for seven years, and currently serves as the president of the Garretson Economic Development Board.

Kimberly Munoz is currently a Mortgage Lender with First PREMIER Bank. With over a decade of banking experience, Kimberly has excelled in various roles within the industry. Prior to her current mortgage role, she led a team where she empowered her staff and inspired them to believe in themselves. Her recent transition into mortgage lending stems from her dedication to understanding the complexities and barriers of home ownership, including the communication challenges faced by non-English speakers.
Kimberly has been a mentor for the past 8 years with Lutheran Social Services (LSS). She is on the boards of Sioux Falls Que Pasa and Translators of Cultures. Previously, she served on the boards for Bridging the Gap and the South Dakota Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. A strong believer in community, Kimberly has volunteered extensively with organizations like Kids Against Hunger, The Banquet, Meals on Wheels, Our Growth Project, and Leaders of Tomorrow, among others.
One of Kimberly’s proudest projects is “Knowledge is Power,” where she and a family member raised funds to purchase school supplies, clothes, and food for impoverished communities in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala.
Kimberly has received multiple recognitions, including the “30 Under 30” award. Additionally, she has earned accolades such as the Most Improved Branch award and a couple of Performance Awards from her employer, recognizing her outstanding efforts and achievements.
Kristin Catlett, Ulta Beauty
Kristin Catlett is a dedicated mom, wife, and dog mom to three pups, including a new one with disabilities. With years of experience in retail management, she excels as a customer experience champion. Kristin brings positivity and light into the world, radiating energy, good vibes, and a bright sparkle. She loves connecting with others, making them feel seen, heard, and supported. A passionate plant lover, Kristin finds joy in tending to her greenery. She deeply cherishes her home, family, and the wonderful support system around her.
Kendra Cersosimo, Two54 Creative
Founder of Two54 Creative, Kendra Cersosimo has found a passion for working with small- and mid-sized businesses to elevate their brands through professional graphic design and web design services. Prior to owning her business, Kendra obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and a Master’s degree in Management before kick-starting her professional career with corporate titles of Senior Graphic Designer, Digital Media Coordinator, and Communications Coordinator providing valuable real-world experience in graphic design, web design, marketing, and more. Kendra is a Startup Sioux Falls Startup Squad and Founding Member, a Board Member for the Sioux Valley Optimist Club, and an active member of the Sioux Falls Young Professionals Network and Chamber of Commerce. She is a graduate of the EmBe Women’s Leadership Program, Leaders of Tomorrow, and the Co.Starters Business Accelerator Program. Angela Drake, Two Men and A Truck
Angela Drake is the Owner of Two Men and a Truck, Two Men and a Junk Truck, and founder of non-profit, Fight Like A Ninja. She is the epitome of the “talks too much” in grade school and just look at her now! This self-declared “loud mouth mama” uses her voice to uplift others, advocate for change, and share a story to help start a conversation about mental health. She has learned to grab a golden ticket of opportunity and move forward! She embodies Wonder Woman and believes in this famous quote by the famous superhero, “So long as life remains, there is always hope… and so long as there is hope, there can be victory!”
Jill Holt, Weller Brothers Landscape Professionals
Jill grew up in Miller, South Dakota. After high school, she attended the University of South Dakota where she received a business degree with a major in accounting. She began her career in public accounting at Arthur Andersen in Minneapolis. She went on to work as a Financial Analyst at TCF for several years and then as an Accounting Manager at Carlson Companies.
In 2007, Jill and her husband moved to Sioux Falls to be closer to family. Jill chose to stay home and raise her 3 children until 2014. She then worked for SD Innovation Partners as their Chief Financial Officer.
In 2017, she decided she wanted to make an impact at a small business and joined the Weller Brothers Landscape Professionals team as the Controller. She moved quickly into the Chief Financial Officer position by creating the financial infrastructure needed to provide valuable financial data and analysis that helped propel the company to significant growth.
In 2024, Jill was promoted to the Chief Operating Officer of Weller Brothers where her focus has been on developing leaders who motivate and inspire their team members and using data to improve operational efficiency. Jill and her husband, Kory, have 3 children – William, a sophomore at SDSU, Thomas, a freshman at USD and Sarah, a sophomore at Harrisburg High School.

Andrea Smith, Advise to Build
Andrea spent over 20 years working in all aspects of leadership roles within the AEC industry. After serving as an Army officer, she left public service to pursue her career in private industry. Andrea rose to the executive level due to her dedication and achievements within some of the most respected construction and development firms. Her strong connection to the communities she serves continue to bring deeper and stronger relationships throughout the industry for clients. Andrea’s undergraduate education in engineering, master’s in business and project management, and decades of experience throughout the many facets of the industry makes her perspective significantly valued by her clients and partners. Andrea’s infectious positive personality makes the most complicated projects fun and successful. Andrea thrives on big picture thinking with her clients, creating teams to execute on these ideas, and putting plans in place to make dreams a reality through design, construction and facility management.
Community Roots: Andrea is a leader within many organizations and initiatives that continue to make the community a better place to live. She is the incoming chair for the Sioux Falls Zoo and Aquarium Board of Directors, is a founding member of Start Up Sioux Falls, served as a Director for the Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Network and on the City of Sioux Falls Events Center Task Force initiative (to name a few). Nejla Smith, Compass Tax & Accounting
Nejla Smith is the founder and owner of Compass Tax & Accounting Prof LLC, established in January 2018. A Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Sioux Falls with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Nejla became a Certified Public Accountant, passing all certification exams on her first attempt. Demonstrating her innovation and community centered focus, Nejla decided to start her own business after five years of experience at a public accounting firm. She is the only Hispanic bilingual CPA in South Dakota serving a growing population. Outside of her professional life, Nejla is a dedicated wife and mother of four children, aged 3 to 14. Ashley Ballou-Bonnema, Breathe Bravely
Ashley Ballou-Bonnema, a vocalist based in Sioux Falls, SD received her B.A. from Augustana University and her Masters degree in Music performance from the University of South Dakota. The acting executive director and founder of the 501(c)3 organization, Breathe Bravely, Ashley utilizes her unique experience and expertise as a vocalist to inspire an impact that uses the art of singing to combat the effects of cystic fibrosis. Breathe Bravely’s flagship programs, sINgSPIRE and the sINgSPIRE Virtual Choir, utilize the therapeutic and life-giving principles of singing to promote mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. One of my favorite quotes is, “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.” My family is everything to me. Ivan, my husband of 27 years. Our three children – Ethan, Aidan and Ayla. Our daughter in-law, Angela, and our granddaughter, Nora. They are my world. They fuel me to embolden the people on my path to cultivate vibrant growth for themselves, their family and their community. Over the past six years, I’ve done this professionally through my service to the City of Sioux Falls and Mayor Paul TenHaken as Chief of Staff. I partner with our mayor to develop strategic initiatives, enhance community relations, and drive the execution of key organizational operations. Drawing from two decades of professional experience, I specialize in vision casting, strategic planning, and solving complex problems.
Through building and nurturing our One Sioux Falls and One Team culture, we’ve positioned our organization and community to navigate scaling population growth alongside numerous challenges, all while keeping Sioux Falls investible. Erin Bertram, Sioux Falls Police Department
My name is Erin Bertram. I have had the honor of serving as the school resource officer at George McGovern Middle School for the past three years. During this time, my primary focus has been ensuring the safety and well-being of the school community. I am passionate about giving back to the community and feel privileged to have been recognized for my efforts.
In addition to my duties as a police officer, I am actively involved in our department’s community outreach team. I also participate in Camp POSTCARD (Peace Officers Striving to Create and Reinforce Dreams) and contribute to the CORE (Community Outreach Recognition Empathy) project. These initiatives aim to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. Involvement in Camp POSTCARD and CORE has allowed me to connect with the youth in our community, providing them with positive role models and support. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the betterment of the community where I work and grew up.
This recognition holds a special significance for me, as I have called Sioux Falls my home my entire life. I met my husband at Washington High School, and even while attending college in Minnesota, I knew I wanted to return and serve my hometown while raising my children in this community. Outside of work, I cherish spending quality time with family and friends, playing and watching soccer, and cheering on the Chiefs!
Robin Burnley, Sanford Health
I have been a resident of Sioux Falls since I attended Augustana College where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Business and Health Services Administration in 1987. I have raised two children who both graduated from Roosevelt Hight School. Throughout the years, I have had a strong desire to give back to my community. When the children were younger, I was on the Peace Lutheran Preschool Board, Sunday School Teacher and Confirmation Leader. I was an active member of the Roosevelt Booster Club and served as the Volleyball Parent Representative for 3 years. I was the Senior Class Party Committee Secretary when my daughter was a senior. Professionally, I have been a mentor for the SHRM Student Chapter and Past Program Committee Member for SESHRM. Currently, I am the Chair of the Civil Service Board for the City of Sioux Falls and a Board Member at the Helpline Center. I have been in the Human Resources field for over 30 years with the last 18 years as the Employee Relations Director at Sanford Health. Sioux Falls is a wonderful community to work and raise a family in. I am married to Christopher Burnley. I have two children, Alexander and Katherine, daughter-in-law Katelyn, beautiful granddaughter, Ellanora and two step-children, Isabella and Nicholas. In my free time, I enjoy exercising, reading and spending time with my family.
Dr. Melissa Dittberner, USD, Midwest Street Medicine
Dr. Mo, (Melissa Dittberner), PhD, CPS, PS, LMT, is an award-winning faculty at the University of South Dakota. She is a Remarkable woman and Entrepreneurial Excellence winner, TEDx speaker, prevention specialist and peer specialist. Dr. Mo is the CEO of Straight Up Care, a telehealth platform for peer specialists, and the Executive Director of Midwest Street Medicine, providing low-barrier care that addresses the vulnerable and unhoused populations’ medical, behavioral, and social needs. She is the co-author of The Alcohol Reset, a cognitive method that is self-paced and set to encompass trauma informed, individualized perspective to create a healthy relationship with alcohol. Dr. Mo is a person in long-term recovery and her mission is to empower individuals to learn and navigate their paths to recovery and well-being.
Allison Dvorak, Let’s Skate
Allison Dvorak currently serves as the President of Let’s Skate and has been associated with the organization since its conception in 2017. Throughout the conceptual design, re-masterplanning of Nelson Park, fundraising, and design and construction, Allison has helped lead the efforts towards Let’s Skate’s mission of building Sioux Falls’ first large scale concrete skatepark. Allison is architect working as the Director of Facility Development for Avera, overseeing the design and construction of renovation and new construction projects throughout the Avera network. She is an active volunteer for various community and design driven boards, such as the Sioux Falls Design Center and AIA South Dakota and continues to leverage her architectural skillset to advocate for dignified and inclusive design for all through the projects she engages with.

Dawn Marie Johnson, Self-Employed
Dawn Marie, a dynamic advocate and community leader from the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation, holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of South Dakota. In 2023, she made history as the first woman of color elected to the Sioux Falls School District School Board. She serves on the Bridging the Gap Board and the Levitt at the Falls Foundation. Dawn Marie’s dedication has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Emerging Leader Award at the University of South Dakota Alumni Achievement Awards in 2022. In 2024, she completed The 437 Project, a 437-mile run across South Dakota to raise funds for the 988 Helpline and mental health services. With over a decade of experience supporting schools and afterschool programs, she now leverages her expertise to enhance cultural competency, education quality, and youth services. Committed to community building and empowerment, she also finds fulfillment as a mother to her 10-year-old daughter, Rhayn, and as a mentor to many young adults.
Heather Krause, Mayo Clinic
Heather was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD, where she currently resides with her high-school sweetheart Austin and their 7-year old daughter Larsen. She received her a B.A. in International Studies and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of South Dakota, where she embraced opportunities to travel abroad, participate in the American Model United Nations in Chicago and intern with the Iraqi Ambassador to the United Nations for two summers. Heather’s career has spanned Marketing, Market Research, Politics, Strategy, and Healthcare. As a Manager of Nursing Strategy at Mayo Clinic, Heather champions the nursing workforce & drives innovative, patient- and nurse-centric strategies, aimed at equipping nurses for the evolving demands of the hospital of the future.
Passionate about health equity, Heather works to break down barriers to healthcare, community resources and support for underserved populations. Outside of her professional role, she founded “It Takes a Village” (formerly Women’s Day of Service) a community-based project that builds hygiene-kits, postpartum kits and new home baskets for various members of the community, including women, refugees, and survivors of domestic violence. To date, It Takes a Village has built over 6,000 kits serving over 8 non-profits in the Sioux Falls area. Heather has held various leadership roles including, President of the Young Democrats of South Dakota, co-chair of the Inclusive Digital Equity Alliance for the City of Sioux Falls, and currently serves as chair of the South Dakota Statewide Advocacy and Engagement Committee for the American Heart Association.
Debora Natareno, Alberto’s Concrete
My name is Debora Natareno, and I am deeply passionate about serving my community and supporting those in need. As a co-founder of Alberto’s Concrete, I help manage and grow our family business, but my true calling is helping others. Whether it’s providing meals, offering rides, or opening my home to families in need, I believe in giving back however I can. My love for God is at the heart of everything I do, and I am grateful to serve in my church through prayer groups and community outreach. As the Secretary of the Board for Que Pasa Sioux Falls, I work to uplift the Hispanic community and make a positive impact on the lives of others. I’m also committed to helping my parents’ village in Guatemala whenever possible. My greatest joy comes from helping women and families, and I am honored to be a part of such a loving and supportive community.
Elisha Nelson, Sanford Health
Elisha has worked in the Social Work field for the past 15 years. She previously worked with Child Protections and found her passion for medical social work while working for CPS. Elisha has been employed with Sanford Children’s Specialty Clinic as a Social Worker for the past 11 years.
Elisha was awarded social worker of the year from NASW in 2016. She has also been recognized with multiple nominations for Sanford’s Star Performance. Elisha was recently awarded the Friend of Nursing award due to her significant contributions to Sanford.
Elisha’s passion is working with children and families who have a child with a medically complex diagnosis. She strives to provide support to families, decrease financial stress, connects them to foundations related to their child’s diagnosis, helps them apply for medical waivers and provides ongoing guidance to ease stress wherever possible.
Elisha’s passion grew in 2022 when she was asked to help lead her clinic’s Kids Kitchen food pantry. She worked with management and Feeding SD in efforts to close the gap for patients who face food insecurity. Elisha advocates for patients to receive their food in a private area so they can feel more comfortable accepting help. When Elisha is not helping with the weekly food delivery, restocking the pantry, ordering food from Feeding SD, hygiene supplies orders, she can be found providing guidance with other areas within Sanford, so they can start their own pantry and continue to help those facing food insecurity.
Community Health Workers, Avera Community Health Resource Center
This talented team of seven certified Community Health Workers speaks a total of 15 languages and are trusted members of their communities. Their lived experience as immigrants and refugees allows them to understand the unique challenges that come with navigating life here. This team has connected individuals with needed resources, helps navigate healthcare, and find employment. The team also works to help educate current and future healthcare providers through partnerships with local colleges and panel discussions with local care providers, sharing the important role culture and language play in healthcare. In addition to working with over 500 individual clients, the Avera Community Health Resource Center team routinely participates in community activities, serves on boards and committees, and speak at community events and on panels to advocate for those that they serve.
Clay Hoffman, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire
Clay Hoffman, originally from the West River farming and ranching community of Winner, South Dakota, now calls Sioux Falls, SD’s largest city home. He currently works as the Development Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire where he works to raise critical support for the 1,500 youth served in the organization from the age of 4-weeks to 18-years. Hoffman is passionate about serving his community and making a difference. This passion inspired him to run for office this year and is a candidate for State Senate in District 12.
Randi Van Der Sloot, Sioux Falls School District
Randi Van Der Sloot was a shining example of leadership, growth, achievement, and community contribution. As a music educator, her leadership extended far beyond the classroom. She inspired her students, colleagues, and community with her passion, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Randi led with empathy and authenticity, empowering others to reach their full potential through her positive influence and encouragement. Randi embodied Joy.
Randi’s growth as a professional was evident in her continuous pursuit of education. She was continuously refining her skills to become an even more impactful teacher and mentor. Her ability to adapt, grow, and innovate showcased her dedication to progression and excellence.
Her achievements were many, from directing award-winning choirs to positively influencing the lives of countless students. Her contributions didn’t stop in the classroom. Randi touched lives through her battle with cancer, creating a supportive community where she inspired others to face adversity with courage and grace thru Randi’s Warriors. Her work with the Avera Cancer Race as a proud Pink Lady, and her thoughtful donation of celebration bells for cancer patients, illustrated her selflessness and commitment to lifting others.
Randi’s contributions to the community were rooted in love, compassion, and service. She used every opportunity to uplift children, families, and those facing challenges, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met. Through her actions, Randi truly embodied EmBe’s mission of empowering and enhancing the lives of others.
Bob Wendland, Washington Pavilion
Bob Wendland’s passion for community arts has motivated him in all he does. As a theatre manager, artistic director, producer, community leader and professional entertainer, he strives to create art that empowers and excites.
In his role at the Washington Pavilion, he has the opportunity to work with families, students and staff of the youth theatre program, empowering young people to grow their talents and pursue sustainable careers in the arts. While he is certainly integral in bringing Broadway touring shows and top-notch entertainment to his community, he enjoys most finding ways for local entertainers to perform on the stages of The Pavilion and The Orpheum. He works closely with The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, The Premiere Playhouse, Augustana University, countless dance studios, and many more local performance groups to ensure there continues to be a space for them on the finest stages in Sioux Falls.
As Artistic Director and founder for The Good Night Theatre Collective, he amplifies high-level theatre in Sioux Falls. With nearly 100 performers and production artists in it’s ninth season, GNTC continues to provide paid opportunities for local theatre artists.
He received the Mayor’s Award for Individual Excellence in the Arts in 2018, has won multiple Stage Awards, the Hey Sioux Falls Pivot of the Year Award in 2021 and the Innovative Project Award from the Sioux Falls Arts Council in 2021.

Dr. Michelle Baack, Sanford Health
Michelle was born and raised in Pierre, SD where she learned the value of hard work and the joy of giving from her incredible family, most of whom are teachers. She always loved science and was fortunate to receive an exceptional education in pharmacy and medicine at SDSU and Sanford School of Medicine, USD respectively. After medical school, she completed her Pediatric Residency at Creighton-UNMC in Omaha, NE then practiced as a general pediatrician for 10 years in Pierre. She loved caring for kids, but after healing from the loss of their first newborn daughter, Michelle has a heart to care for sick babies and to help their parents through their medical journeys. In her mid-career, she made a life-changing decision to further her medical training as a Neonatology fellow at the University of Iowa. There, she not only gained exceptional clinical skills to care for critically ill babies, but she also fell in love with research and teaching. Now, she cares for babies in the NICU at Sanford Health and leads a basic, translational and clinical research program that aims to improve outcomes for mothers and babies who experience high-risk pregnancies or births. She is also fortunate to be teaching the next generation of physicians and scientists through coursework and research training at USD SSOM and Sanford Research. For Michelle, nothing is more rewarding than seeing how science can shape a brighter future for mom’s and babies.
Kelsey Kruse, The Compass Center
I am a trauma therapist working at The Compass Center. I see teenagers and adults affected by family, relational, or sexual violence. I have worked there since 2016. I recently became trained in brainspotting as trauma therapeutic intervention. I ran the rape crisis response program for approximately 4 years, managing volunteer advocates who responded to calls of sexual assault advocacy needs. My counseling internship was working with prisoners on their trauma histories. . Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in the state of Iowa as a social worker, working with at risk youth and families. And I also worked off and on during college and graduate school for places like LifeScape and the Village Northwest Unlimited, working with adults with intellectual disabilities. I believe strongly in trauma work, as trauma impacts individuals, families, systems, and communities as a whole. And if we can create an environment that is trauma informed and responsive, we can create healing and acceptance of those impacted by all types of trauma. It has been my absolute honor to work within the Sioux Falls area to address trauma needs and hopefully create prevention from future traumas.
Margaret Kropuenske, Sanford Health
Margaret Kropuenske was born and raised in western South Dakota. Her healthcare career started as a Medical Assistant, graduating from Nettleton Junior College. From there, she completed her Associates in Nursing from the University of South Dakota and her Bachelors and Masters of Nursing from South Dakota State University. She works as a clinic director for Sanford Health Women’s Specialties. Throughout her career she has enjoyed mentoring and educating nurses. The quality of women’s health is at the forefront of her nursing practice and leadership as she collaborates with her team for better maternal healthcare. Her family includes her husband Travis, their two children Madison and Nate and their two dogs Griz and Ed.
Heidi McKean, MD, Avera Health
Dr. Heidi McKean is a Medical Oncologist at Avera Cancer Institute in Sioux Falls. She is originally from Lennox, South Dakota, and graduated from Augustana University with a major in biology. Dr. McKean received her Medical Degree from University of South Dakota School of Medicine. She completed 3 years of Internal Medicine Residency followed by 3 years of Medical Oncology and Hematology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She then returned home to practice and has been a Medical Oncologist at Avera Cancer Institute since 2011. She is the GI oncology medical director and the GI Disease-Specific Dyad Leader for the oncology service line. Dr. McKean serves as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team that achieved Avera McKennan’s National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) designation. She has presented Avera’s research experience at the ASCO GI national meeting in 2024. She presents an annual GI Malignancies Update program to share practice changing information to the multidisciplinary group that cares for patients with GI cancers across the tri-state area of Avera’s footprint. She is a clinical professor who regularly teaches the importance of a caring bedside manner and clear, honest communication to the multiple medical students and residents that she welcomes in her clinic. She lives in Sioux Falls with her husband, James, and two children, Jackson and Ella. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with family at the lake, cheering her children on at their events, and traveling.
Dr. Lauren Skattum, Britt Haus
Dr. Lauren Britt Skattum, with over a decade of experience, is the founder of Britt Haus, PC, a Direct Patient Care (DPC) practice in Sioux Falls. Board certified in Gynecology and Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Skattum is dedicated to empowering women, particularly those navigating life after childbearing. Her practice focuses on personalized care, addressing hormones, metabolism, and lifestyle changes within a supportive environment.
A native of Alabama, Dr. Skattum graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biochemistry from the University of Alabama in 2006. She then earned her medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her OB/GYN residency at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, OH. Following residency, she practiced in Leesburg, FL, for eight years, where she held positions as Vice Chair and Department Chair of Maternal Child Health.
In 2022, Dr. Skattum launched Britt Haus, PC, to offer high-quality, individualized care through the DPC model, fostering strong doctor-patient relationships without insurance constraints.

Natasha Margarita Smith, Sanford Health
Originally from Texas, Natasha Smith (she/her) spent much of her childhood and adolescent years in domestic violence shelters throughout the Midwest and Central US before landing in South Dakota and calling Sioux Falls home. With a background in corporate social responsibility and corporate philanthropy, she brings an abundance of experience in creating equitable programming and working closely with non-profit organizations serving marginalized populations and engaging Tribal led organizations. With a lived experience as a Latina in the workforce, and overcoming significant barriers to success herself, she now leads diversity, equity and inclusion work at Sanford Health. With an eye for equity, she is responsible for leading the team of professionals that oversee equity strategy for the health care system, focusing on the people through human resources and collaborating on clinical and community work aimed at achieving equitable care outcomes. Natasha is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences and is a former Board Member for EmBe. She is a founding member of Pathways to Inclusive and Equitable Workplaces and serves the state-wide day of giving ‘South Dakota Gives’ in an advisory capacity. She is a mother to four children, a military spouse, and an advocate in her community.
Jenifer Wollman, PharmD, Avera Pharmacy Services
A South Dakota native, Jen grew up on a farm in Ashton (south of Aberdeen) and learned the value of a strong work ethic, the advantage of dedication, and the reward of perseverance from her parents and grandparents. After earning her BA in Humanities and Social Sciences at NDSU in Fargo and experiencing well-learned lessons in life, she returned to South Dakota to pursue her pharmacy education.
Now, with over 10 years of experience as a Specialty Pharmacist, Jenifer Wollman combines health and wellness expertise with a genuine commitment to improving the lives of those around her. It is her mission to ensure that her patients receive the highest quality care, while also empowering them to take control of their own health and well-being. Known for her empathetic and patient-centered care, Jen embodies inclusivity, passion, and resilience and is a trusted advocate for health equity, always looking for ways to make a positive impact. Jenifer is a purposeful encourager who understands that sometimes it’s necessary to find innovative ways to navigate the challenges that life throws at you, exemplified by earning her Doctor of Pharmacy as a single parent.
In addition to her clinical work, Jen has been involved in community outreach initiatives. In her pharmacy career, she has actively served on Boards and collaborated with state and local organizations to provide health education and resources to our communities.
Kristine Bjorum, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire
Kristine has been a dedicated early childhood professional and advocate for children, families, and the professionals who serve them. With a passion for workforce development, collaboration, and expanding access to quality programs, Kristine has worked tirelessly to advance the field of early childhood education.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Special and Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota and has taught in various settings, including early childhood, Head Start, and elementary and high school resource classrooms. Kristine also contributed to the South Dakota Early Childhood Enrichment Program through Sanford CHILD Services, where she taught Responsive Parenting, Child Development Associate, and Professional Development courses.
Throughout her career, Kristine has been actively involved in professional organizations, including the National and State Associations for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). She currently serves on the state leadership committee as a Member-at-Large and co-chairs the Advocacy and Policy Committee for Early Learner South Dakota. In recognition of her contributions, she received the SDAEYC Outstanding Educator Award.
As Director of Early Learning Program Development at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire, Kristine works with directors and staff to enhance curriculum, classroom environments, and policies, while providing technical assistance and conducting classroom observations.
Allison Hutchinson, Sanford Health
Allison, a Sanford senior career development consultant for K-12 students in the Sioux Falls area, dedicates herself to fostering experiences that enable students to discover their identities and early roles in the world of work. She advocates for access to opportunities, education, and training that equip students to meaningfully contribute to their communities. She often tells students that her job is to help them find their jobs. Allison holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and secondary education, as well as master’s degrees in educational leadership and genetic counseling, and she is a certified career coach. With over ten years of teaching experience, she initially taught high school biology and AP Biology before transitioning to career and technical education courses in biomedical science. Allison joined the Sanford family as a genetic counselor and then moved into her current role on the Aspire team in 2019. Allison enjoys engaging with students to explore their interests and collaborates with her colleagues in health care and career development to link students with resources and opportunities. Beyond her passion for student engagement, Allison finds profound honor and joy in collaborating with educators, counselors, administrators, and parents across local school districts and communities to support the career development of this next generation. To be clear, her favorite students and school administrator are her kids and husband, who, along with their two dogs, make life outside of work time the very best.
Jamie Juhl, University of Sioux Falls
Dr. Jamie Juhl is an Assistant Professor of Special Education at the Fredrickson School of Education, University of Sioux Falls, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. With over a decade of experience in K-12 education and athletics, she has held roles as a head and assistant volleyball coach, kindergarten teacher, 3rd grade teacher, and K-12 special education teacher. During her time, she has coordinated professional learning opportunities and mentored many colleagues and future teachers regarding best practices for serving students with exceptionalities.
Dr. Juhl earned her B.A. in Elementary and Special Education from Boise State University in 2009. In 2019, Dr. Juhl completed her M.A. in Special Education at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and then relocated to Sioux Falls, SD, to teach at the University of Sioux Falls. She began pursuing her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Special Education at Liberty University in the summer of 2020 and successfully defended her dissertation in November 2023.
Dr. Jamie Juhl continues to research best practices to support the development of future educators who will eventually serve families and students with special education needs. She is passionate about equipping educators with the skills and knowledge needed to create equitable learning environments that will positively impact the lives of students and families alike.
Kiersta Machacek, Sioux Falls School District
I am a product of the Sioux Falls School District. I attended Garfield Elementary, Axtell Park Junior High and the “Real” Washington High School. I graduated from Sioux Falls College with my Bachelors in Arts with Elementary Education and returned to University of Sioux Falls and earned my Masters in Education with Administration. I started teaching at Horace Mann El. for 5 years. At 29, I achieved my first administration job at Oscar Howe Elementary as an assistant principal under Delores Gulson. We had 800+ students before Discovery opened. After 2 years at OH, I transferred to JFK for 2 years; worked under Larry Bandy and the 3rd year at JFK, I was part-time JFK and Hayward Elementary. During this year, Doug Erickson, the current principal at Hayward was retiring at the end of the school year. Dr. Homan informed me I was going to be the new head principal at Hayward the following year. I was at Hayward for 10 years. Dr. Maher made a switch and I moved to Rosa Parks Elementary where I’m in my 9th year.
Besides being an educator I am a wife, mom and grandma! I have been married for 30 years to Chad. We have 2 children; Taylor a RISE teacher and Tanner a Freshman Algebra Academy teacher; both at Jefferson. My daughter in law Katie is a 1st grade teacher at Discovery. Both my mom and grandma were teachers as well as my MIL!
Marcella Prokop, Southeast Technical College
Marcella Prokop is a writer and educator who is passionate about helping people tell their stories. As a child, she watched her mom, an immigrant, navigate the process of being a multilingual non-traditional college student. That experience informed Marcella’s teaching philosophy when she began teaching college English and communication classes at Kilian Community College. For the past 14 years, Marcella has worked to ensure that college is accessible and welcoming for all students, but in particular for international, immigrant and refugee students, many of whom are caring for families, working multiple jobs and learning academic language while also improving their English. For the last three years, she has worked as the director of access and workforce opportunity at Southeast Technical College, a role that has allowed her to build programming for first-generation college students of all backgrounds, and programs for multilingual and Native American high school students to assist them in preparing for, enrolling in and succeeding in college. Marcella is currently working on her PhD through Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where her research project is grounded in developing writing and storytelling supports for displaced peoples.
Jamie Stucky, Sanford Health
Jamie Stucky serves as the Senior Director of Clinical Learning Strategies within Sanford Health’s Leadership, Education, and Development (LEAD) department. In this role she leads a team of talented educators, ensuring that clinical and nursing education initiatives are not only innovative but also aligned with Sanford Health’s organizational strategy. Jamie’s leadership and vision have contributed significantly to the development of impactful education programs at Sanford that empower the care team to deliver high-quality care. She is committed to fostering growth and professional development both at Sanford and in the healthcare community by working with academic partners to coordinate student clinical experiences. Jamie received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mount Marty University in 2005 and a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of South Dakota in 2017. She holds a certification in Nursing Professional Development. She began her career at Sanford Health in 2005 as a NICU nurse, moved into ambulatory care, and later transitioned to leadership roles in accreditation and nursing education. Jamie lives in Lennox, SD and enjoys running and spending time with her husband Mathias and 3 daughters, Josie, Clara, and Adelynn.
Laura Tjaden, Sioux Falls School District
Laura Tjaden, or, Mrs. Laura as she is known to thousands of students, served as a music and drama teacher for the Sioux Falls School District for thirty-one years. The majority of those years were spent at Eugene Field A+ Elementary before she retired in May of this year. During her time at EFA+, she directed over 100 choral concerts and was the director and musical director for the school’s yearly spring production. Through her direction and guidance, a cast of 150 students presented full-scale productions including “The Lion King”, “Peter Pan”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Mary Poppins” and “Beauty and the Beast”. In her early years as a teacher she was also a choreographer for numerous shows at Lincoln, Washington, and Roosevelt High Schools. Mrs. Laura was nominated five times for teacher of the year, and was selected as a finalist twice. Her summers were spent as the program director for children with special needs including Camp Bring it On for children with cancer, and Spirit Camp for children with spina bifida. She has been a member of the Sioux Falls rock band Sugardaddy for twenty-eight years, and will be inducted into the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this month. Since retiring she has started her own business called Bravo Arts where she coaches kids and adults for auditions and currently serves thirteen students in voice and piano lessons. Her late mother, Kathleen Fjellestad, was her strongest female role model and continues to inspire her daily.
Janet Brown, Janet Brown and Associates
Janet Brown returned to South Dakota in 2018 after retiring as president & CEO of Grantmakers in the Arts. Recently, she was the facilitator of the Mayor’s Arts Task Force that successfully advocated for a full-time arts coordinator within the Sioux Falls City Planning Department, the first of its kind in the state. Janet continues assisting the City as it creates a new Arts Commission and develops policies to enhance arts experiences for all Sioux Falls residents and visitors.
She was Chair of Performing and Visual Arts at Augustana University and has taught public policy for masters in arts administration programs on-line for 19 years. Janet was Executive Director of South Dakotans for the Arts where she introduced arts-infused curriculum at the Eugene Field Elementary School in Sioux Falls, a touring children’s theatre company and created the Prairie Arts Management Institute held at Augustana. She is a founding board member of Arts South Dakota. She worked professionally in theatre in New York City, San Francisco and Europe.
Janet was awarded the South Dakota Governor’s Award in the Arts and is a member of the University of South Dakota College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame. Janet has served on many local and national boards of directors and has been a panelist and site evaluator for the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities, numerous state arts agencies and private foundations. Janet has an undergraduate degree in Theatre and a Master’s in Public Administration from USD.
Katie Critzer, South Dakota Aerial and Arts
Katie Critzer is the co-owner and head aerial silks coach at South Dakota Aerial & Arts. She was the first to bring aerial and circus performances to the Sioux Falls community. She continues to enhance access to aerial and bungee fitness to adults and kids, and further the reach and creativity of artistic aerial shows and entertainment. Over the last three years, she has produced and performed in over three dozen performances that have been seen by thousands. She was chosen as one of Sioux Falls’ 30 Under 30, successfully completed and pitched as part of Co-Starters through Start-Up Sioux Falls and won Best New Business by 605 Magazine.
Madison Elliott, Headlights Theater
Madison Elliott is a professional dancer, choreographer, certified Countertechnique teacher and entrepreneur who is originally from Sioux Falls, SD. She moved away from home when she was 15 to pursue dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She then went on to receive a BFA in Dance with a minor in Arts Management from SUNY Purchase College in New York. In 2020 she moved back home to Sioux Falls and founded Headlights Theater which just finished its 5th season. Headlights Theater is a non profit organization that uplifts and connects the Sioux Falls arts community through innovative performances and accessible education programs. Madison splits her time between New York and Sioux Falls so she can continue performing with renowned company, Doug Varone and Dancers, while she continues to run Headlights Theater. She has also worked with companies such as ZviDance, MJ Willis Project, DanceLabNYC, TU Dance Company, HIVEWILD, MeenMoves and currently is an adjunct professor at Adelphi University. Madison directs and choreographs dance films, including Empty Vessel, which was mentioned in Dance Magazine, featured in seven film festivals and won two awards. Madison is passionate about her work as a performer, educator, entrepreneur, and hopes to make dance accessible for everybody.
Nancy Halverson, Levitt at the Falls
Nancy began her career teaching at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Phoenix, Arizona. Next, she joined the faculty of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign as a professor of Theatre. In 1999, following her husband’s appointment as President of Augustana College, and the birth of their son Cole, Nancy founded The Children’s Theatre Company of Sioux Falls. In 2007, the family moved again to Greenville, South Carolina, where she taught for both Clemson and Furman University. In 2011, she was named President and CEO of the Children’s Museum of the Upstate, where she led a successful campaign to open a second museum with a focus on early childhood education. In 2019, the Halverson family returned to Sioux Falls where Nancy took on the role of Executive Director of Levitt at the Falls, which has quickly become a centerpiece for the arts in our community.
Sarah Larson, hART Studio, Good Night Theatre, Washington Pavilion, Arts South Dakota
Sarah Larson is an artist and lifelong advocate for the arts. She grew up in South Dakota and has a BA in Studio Art from the University of Iowa. She attended the Aveda Institute before heading west to California where she would spend 20 years building community through many different vehicles in the arts. She has sewn both professionally and personally for over 25 years, managed visual display and merchandising for over a decade in retail, led textile and event design in San Francisco, and lastly styled and tailored in-house and on-set for the marketing division of Gap Inc. Headquarters before returning to the midwest.
Sarah has shared her love of sewing, fashion, and theater, costuming for local theaters in Sioux Falls including Dakota Academy of Performing Arts and Goodnight Theatre Collective. She continues to design and create in her all inclusive hARTt studio in downtown Sioux Falls working closely with the LGBTQ2+ youth and local non profits with community art projects. She works full time as the Communications Coordinator for Arts South Dakota, and loves being a mom and partner to her husband of 25+ years. Sarah is rooted in community, advocacy and inclusivity – as a native of South Dakota, she continues to support the art community and bridge the culture she left to find.
Ivy Oland Dandar, Self-Employed
Ivy Oland Dandar is an evidence-based design practitioner and founder of Oland Arts Consulting. With two decades of experience as a business owner, she integrates art and innovative design into physical environments, leveraging local talent to create spaces that inspire. Through her work with leading businesses, healthcare systems, and civic institutions, Ivy has collaborated with hundreds of artists, directing the investment of more than ten million dollars into the local and regional arts economy, elevating the role of the arts while serving and educating clients and communities. A key figure in the region’s arts and design landscape, Ivy’s leadership and dedication to promoting local artists and creatives extends through her involvement on many community boards, where she actively contributes to the cultural and artistic growth of Sioux Falls. Ivy is deeply inspired by the female trailblazers in our community who have encouraged her and paved the way for women like her to thrive in leadership roles, and is committed to continuing their legacy of mentorship and empowerment. Outside of her professional work, Ivy enjoys fostering creativity and curiosity as a family by sharing her love for art, gardening, food, and travel with her amazing and patient husband and two adventurous young sons.
Jessie Park, Sanford Health
Jessie is the Program Coordinator and Lead Art Specialist of the Sanford Arts Program at Sanford USD Medical Center. She has led the program since 2011. The Sanford Arts program serves as a non-pharmacological pain management tool, boredom buster and community builder for anyone who is interested to participate. It is a complimentary service Sanford offers to all who are interested. Aside from her work at Sanford, Jessie is the commander of Bravo Battery in the 1st of the 147th Field Artillery, South Dakota Army National Guard. She is mom to daughter Raiisa (Rye-ee-sa) and a German Shepherd named Druzhya (Droo-zh-ya).
Andrea Ross, Self-Employed, Augustana University
Andrea Ross is an international vocalist and Broadway performer. She began performing professionally in her hometown, Boston, MA, where she won the Elliot Norton Award for ‘Outstanding Actress,’ awarded by the Boston Theater Critics Association. Andrea then caught the attention of Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who served as her mentor and producer. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Universal Music Group produced her solo album, ‘Moon River,’ which reached the Top 50 UK Charts.
Andrea has performed in UK venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Stadium, where she sang for Princess Diana’s memorial concert, hosted by Princes William and Harry. Andrea performs with prolific symphony orchestras and has starred in two Broadway Tours; Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Whistle Down the Wind’ and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The Sound of Music.’ Additionally, Andrea performs in Walt Disney Company’s show, ‘Disney In Concert.’ She recently won the Gold Medal at the American Traditions Vocal Competition in Savannah, GA, showcasing her versatility across multi-genres.
After spending a decade in New York City, Andrea now resides in Sioux Falls with her husband, Robbie Erhard, who plays the principal cello in the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. She regularly sings with the orchestra and is a recipient of the South Dakota Arts Council’s Touring Artist Grant. Andrea also received the 2024 Sioux Falls Stage Award for Best Variety Performer. As a voice teacher at Augustana University, she encourages and uplifts young talent, just as she once was. Andrea is deeply committed to the power of vulnerability and connection through music.
Regina Ruhberg, Washington Pavilion
Regina Ruhberg is a highly accomplished leader in performance management, boasting over two decades of expertise with Washington Pavilion Management, Inc. As a key driving force behind the Pavilion Performance Series, she has been instrumental in bringing prestigious Broadway titles to the Sioux Falls community. Through her unwavering dedication, Ruhberg and her team deliver approximately 200 performances annually, consistently raising the bar for local entertainment.

Kim Bartling’s professional career spans 38 years; two countries, both the public and private sectors, and all levels of education. Kim taught high school English, speech and theatre for 12 years before moving to USF where she chaired the Speech Communication and Theatre Department until 2012. Jennifer Schriever, MD, Sanford Health
Jennifer Schriever, MD is a family physician at Sanford Health who for the past 3 years has followed her passion for health and wellness to be educated to treat the disease of obesity. She has been integral in developing comprehensive, nonbiased care for patients with the disease of obesity at the Sanford Weight Management Center. She is also in leadership roles at Sanford and the South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians as well as serving on the Sanford Health Foundation Board and CFM Residency Board. She grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated from SDSU, USD School of Medicine, the Center for Family Medicine Residency, and received an MBA at Augustana University. She is married to her supportive husband, Troy, with amazing adult children including 2 daughters, 2 son in laws, and a son.
DenYelle Baete Kenyon, University of South Dakota
Dr. Kenyon grew up south of Sioux Falls and graduated from Harrisburg when it was one K-12 building. She received her BS in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota and went on to receive a PhD in Family Studies and Human Development from the University of Arizona. DenYelle was overjoyed to be able to move back home to raise her family. She worked at Sanford Research for 11 years as a public health researcher, focusing on teen pregnancy/STI prevention, undergraduate research training, and helping lead the Collaborative Research Center for American Indian Health. At the University of South Dakota for the past 4 years, DenYelle leads the master of public health program and diversity efforts for the medical school, where she is fortunate to work with teams on increasing underrepresented students in health care careers and training future medical and public health practitioners on achieving health equity.
Willette A. Capers, Augustana University
Willette A. Capers is the Assistant Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity, and inclusion at Augustana University. Willette holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Claflin University in English Literature and Theatre, a Master of Arts in English Literature from North Carolina Central University, and a Master of Science from Troy University in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education Administration. She is currently a doctoral student at Northeastern University, where her research focuses on the impact of value for Black Women and their persistence rates in the Academy. Willette, a certified diversity professional with the National Diversity Council, Cornell University, and an Administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory, has dedicated her career to D. Nancy Halverson, Levitt at the Falls
Nancy began her career teaching at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Phoenix, Arizona. Next, she joined the faculty of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign as a professor of Theatre. In 1999, following her husband’s appointment as President of Augustana College, and the birth of their son Cole, Nancy founded The Children’s Theatre Company of Sioux Falls. In 2007, the family moved again to Greenville, South Carolina, where she taught for both Clemson and Furman University. In 2011, she was named President and CEO of the Children’s Museum of the Upstate, where she led a successful campaign to open a second museum with a focus on early childhood education. In 2019, the Halverson family returned to Sioux Falls where Nancy took on the role of Executive Director of Levitt at the Falls, which has quickly become a centerpiece for the arts in our community.
Bridget Hanson, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire
Bridget Hanson is the Early Learning Academy Director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire’s location on 57th Street in Sioux Falls. She has a Child Development Associate and over 17 years of experience working with youth in the community. Throughout her career, she has held many positions including Lead Teacher, Curriculum Writer, Assistant Director and Director.
Bridget is a relationships-based leader with a passion for team building. She enjoys serving on the leadership teams of both the SFWOW and South Dakota Association of Childcare Directors. Bridget was recently awarded the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Service to Youth Award. In addition to her professional career, Bridget also serves on the Booster Club for Washington High School. She spends her spare time with her husband and two teenage daughters at sporting events, traveling, gardening, or playing with their two goofy doodles.

I have been employed by Sanford Medical Center for 45 years. I graduated from the Sioux Valley Radiologic Technology Program in 1978. Following graduation, I became employed as a Radiologic Technologist at Sioux Valley Hospital. In 1982, I began teaching as a clinical instructor with the Radiology Program and eventually, assumed the role of Program Director. I earned a B.S. in Radiologic Technology and MBA degree from the University of Sioux Falls. I have enjoyed working with many exceptional students throughout my professional career. I enjoy spending time with family and friends.
Faith Minnich Kjesbo, Avera Health
Faith Minnich Kjesbo (MINN-ick KEYS-bow) joined Avera in 2019 and currently serves as Manager of Formation and Cultural Competence at Avera, leading and promoting a culture of learning, development, and belonging that is founded in and reflective of Avera’s Catholic identity, mission, and values. Kari Papke, Washington High School
Kari Papke is the principal of Washington High School, one of the state’s largest and most diverse schools. Kari is a native of Spearfish, SD, completed her undergraduate in math education at Northern State University and obtained her master’s in educational leadership at the University of Sioux Falls. In her 19 years of service in the Sioux Falls School District, Kari has served many roles including classroom teacher, a volleyball coach, and an assistant principal. Nicole Plesec is the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Community Engagement at the USD Sanford School of Medicine. She manages the alumni operations of the medical school and the Alumni Relations Council. Since 2014, Nicole has been responsible for the planning and implementation of programs and events that strategically engage alumni and constituents devoted to the medical school and its mission. Laura Smith-Hill, Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota, Center for New Americans
For the past 25 years, Laura Smith-Hill has been an educator of Multi-Lingual Learners. She serves as Education Program Supervisor for the Lutheran Social Services Center for New Americans, where she and her team have served refugee and immigrant adults from over 70 countries. Laura has provided leadership to this English Language Acquisition Program for 13 years, providing comprehensive and innovative English communication, literacy, Citizenship and workforce development training for 600 – 1000 students annually. She has facilitated statewide and regional conferences and trainings for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages since 2009. Laura is fueled by the resilience and character of the adult immigrants she serves as well as the passion and talent of her colleagues in the fields of Adult Basic Education and Refugee and Immigrant services. Carly has served her community as a coach for Girls on the Run and through her personal initiative “Woman Up” aimed at improving the education and access to women’s health. Katlin Johnson, Cornerstone Caregiving
Katlin Johnson is the Operating Director for Cornerstone Caregiving, providing non-medical, in-home care throughout Sioux Falls and surrounding communities.
