Preparation and Practice
Five year olds spend their day working on many different Kindergarten readiness activities with the help of Creative Curriculum. This is a nationally recognized, research based curriculum. It is child centered, meaning the children dictate the pace and interest areas and our staff incorporate all of the essentials like alphabet recognition, sorting, matching and science concepts. Dramatic play, building blocks, sensory table, cooking exercises and puzzles are just a few of the activites that will keep your child's mind actively engaged. Along with one on one time with the teachers, these centers help children learn through play and engaging with their peers.
Children this age continue to develop physically and we promote a healthy, active lifestyle. We utilize the SPARK Curriculum to introduce them to activities that encourage basic movement, manipulation and socialization.
We use show and tell to support good listening skills as well as how to speak with friends. Other skills that will be important in school are also practiced including taking turns, transitioning from one room to another and walking in the hallways.
As with the three and four year olds, field trips and specialized activities are planned to help your child see what it available to them. Swimming lessons and Taekwondo are a few of the favorites!
We encourage parents to call or visit any time! Downtown (605) 336-3660 or South (605) 362-9438.
